Liberty & Hudson, Easter 2006 - Liberty was a little less than cooperative, but these still turned out quite well (we're partial, so make your own decisions).

House Construction -  We're building a new house at 145 Persimmon Dr., Oxford, MI.  It's actually in Brandon Twp., but we have an Oxford mailing address and will have an Oxford phone number.  Crazy.  Construction pictures and old journal updates open in a new window.

•  2003-1-16 - Wow!  It's almost done!  We went to the house on 12/30, and saw that cabinetry was in and the painting was done.  We got a call from our builder the day before he needed our light fixtures, which was frustrating.  He originally told us we'd need our fixtures around the 20th of January, but he called on the 6th and asked where the were.  We had to pick them out of ones in stock at the lighting company so we wouldn't be holding up the progress.  We also purchased some from another lighting company; I called the owner to explain the situation, and he told me that the ones I had ordered hadn't been shipped in yet, so he gave me upgrades off the floor for free.  We got the same styles of lights, but more expensive versions of them--nearly $500 worth of upgrades for nothing.  The tile has been installed, and the linoleum installed, countertops installed, and finish plumbing fixtures installed.  The only major thing left is grouting the tile and carpeting, and then we will be able to move in!

•  2003-12-21 - I apologize for the lack of updates over the last month.  Things have been slow (people on vacation, etc.) so not a lot has really gotten done.  Here's the odds and ends that have been completed: well was finished and capped off, siding and outside trim was finished, all water-damaged floor boards replaced, cabinets / vanities dropped off and installed, and the majority of the finish trim completed.  I had some "words" with the builder about the waste of brick and how I wasn't happy to be paying overages for sloppy work habits, so the builder wrote that $138 overage off for me and let me keep the leftover bricks.  I also had some "words" with the builder because our finish carpenter has only work 3 days out of the last 3 1/2 weeks.  This "critical path issue," as my builder referred to him, has been holding everyone else up while he engaged in both Michigan's and Iowa's hunting seasons and somehow "happened" to have a non-functional car so he couldn't get to work.  Grrr.  When we got there on 12/20, the finish carpenter that we met wasn't the regularly scheduled programming.  Apparently, he was just doing our real carpenter a favor.  We're at the point where we don't care--just want it done.

•  2003-11-27 - A good bit more siding has been installed, and the finishing cement poured (stoop/landing, sidewalk, and back door pad).  However, the front door landing had footprints in the cement, so someone's going to have to lay some thinset mortar or something there to even that out. The well was capped, and the a pipe installed in the basement  to the septic field.
